The personal lawyer for President Donald Trump revealed on Tuesday that he paid $130,000 of his personal money to the porn star who claimed she had an affair with Trump before he became president.

In a statement to Buzzfeed, Michael Cohen said that he used “personal funds” to pay off Stephanie Clifford, who goes by the name Stormy Daniels, in 2016, well after the president launched his presidential campaign.

Cohen insists that the money did not come from the Trump campaign nor was he paid back for paying off Clifford.

“Neither the Trump Organization nor the Trump campaign was a party to the transaction with Ms. Clifford, and neither reimbursed me for the payment, either directly or indirectly,” he said in the statement.  “The payment to Ms. Clifford was lawful, and was not a campaign contribution or a campaign expenditure by anyone.”

The New York Times broke the story that Cohen paid Clifford personally.
