Orange Is the New Black star Uzo Aduba has been tapped to play the historic congresswoman and civil rights activist Shirley Chisholm in the upcoming FX limited series Mrs. America.

According to Black Film, the nine-episode series "tells the story of the movement to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA), and the unexpected backlash led by a conservative woman named Phyllis Schlafly."

Set in the 1970s, the show will be presented through the eyes of Schlafly (Cate Blanchett) and feminist icons Chisholm, Gloria Steinem (Rose Byrne), Betty Friedan (Tracey Ullman) and Bella Abzug (Margo Martindale).

In 1968, Chisholm became the first elected African-American female member of the U.S. Congress. She helped form the Congressional Black Caucus and worked on the Education and Labor Committee. Four years later, she became the first Black female candidate from a national political party to run for president.

Mrs. America is slated to premiere on FX in 2020.
