The tragic death of Emmett Till largely shaped the course of American history. His mother Mamie Till-Mobley's brave decision to share his story with the world and show images of his open-casket during his funeral helped mobilize our community and others to fight for equal rights for Black citizens in the U.S. After many decades, both of their stories are being told in full. Actress Danielle Deadwyler stars as Till-Mobley in the new film Till and delivers a magnificent portrayal of Till-Mobley's strength and fortitude.

EBONY correspondent Jenn Rodriguez spoke with the EBONY Power 100 Entertainment Powerhouses awardee about her role in the film and the importance of continuing to uplift the legacies of Emmett Till and his mother.

"Mamie could have quietly mourned. She could have went deeply internal and stepped away from the world. Who could blame her? But in the way that so many women do...and so many parents and families who have had this experience do, it was shifted into something more," shared Deadwyler.
