The beauty industry is big business. And while superstars are often the face of our favorite products, savvy entrepreneurs, like Mabel and Shaira Frias, the founders of Luna Magic, are often the masterminds. The sisters, who merged their talents and resources to create the beauty and lifestyle brand, are featured in this episode of SheEO. Presented by EBONY, in collaboration with Walmart, SheEO is a series that showcases the dynamic and inspiring story of Walmart’s Black woman business partners. Hosted by actress/producer/entrepreneur Marsai Martin, each episode explores the personal journey a businesswoman has taken to achieve success.

Unlike many entrepreneurs, the Frias sisters had role models when it came to running a company. “We drew a lot of inspiration from our family,” says Mabel. “Our mother and grandmother had a healing store, and we would help them restocking candles, with customer service and running the register.”

But they didn’t start off their professional careers as business owners.

After accruing accolades and success with cool kid jobs with big brands like Savage x Fenty and respected media outlets, like NY1, the siblings realized they had a passion for cosmetics and lifestyle products, a profitable skill set from their top shelf experience, and a legacy of entrepreneurship they wanted to continue. They also understood there was a gap in the lifestyle market that they could uniquely fill. “Growing up as an Afro-Latino, you know, in our culture, we didn't see a lot of us on TV,” says Shaira, who adds that her beauty icons range from her mother to the legendary Celia Cruz. The ladies decided it was important to create a brand that allowed women who looked like them to see themselves and feel beautiful — even magical — every day. Everything about Luna Magic, from its vibrant hues to its lush textures, is influenced by the founders’ Caribbean lineage and creating a cultural, and familial, legacy.

The latter remains a major priority to the sisters. “To me generational wealth is exactly that,” adds Mabel. “And now, with this company, I know that I will extend that to my daughter and future children that's gonna be part of our family.”
