Academy Award-winning actress Viola Davis will star in a biopic about former Representative Shirley Chisholm, Deadline reports.

Davis, who will also serve as producer, partnered with Amazon Studios for the movie The Fighting Shirley Chisholm, which will tell the story of Chisholm, who became the first Black woman ever elected to Congress, and the first woman of color to seek the presidential nomination for a major political party.

Screenwriter Adam Countee, who’s written for television shows such as Community and the Mindy Project, has been tapped to write the script, with Maggie Betts set to direct.

Amazon Studios won out in what was reportedly an intense bidding war for the project.

Davis’  JuVee Productions signed a first-look deal with Amazon earlier this week, Variety reports.

The How to Get Away with Murder actress can currently be seen in the film Widows.
