Isimemen Etute, a now-suspended Virginia Tech football player, has been charged with the murder of Jerry Paul Smith, the Washington Post reports.

According to investigators, the 18-year-old connected with a person he believed was a woman named "Angie" on Tinder in April. They met up for oral sex and made plans to meet for another encounter on May 31. Upon his arrival at the second meet-up, Etute learned that Angie was actually Smith.

Etute told investigators that he punched Smith in the face five times and stomped on him. He then left the scene. Two days later, police found Smith unresponsive during a welfare check at his apartment. An autopsy found that all of the bones in his face were broken and he also suffered cranial fractures.

Since being charged, Etute was released on $75,000 secured bond. He was also placed on house arrest with electronic monitoring. Per the terms of Etute's release, he is not allowed to return to Montgomery County less to meet with his attorney or to be present for court proceedings. He has since been suspended by the Virginia Tech football team, according to a statement released by the university.
