Steph Curry shared the trailer for the upcoming feature Breakthrough, a faith-based film produced by DeVon Franklin in collaboration with the NBA superstar’s company, Unanimous Media, on Wednesday.
The movie is based on the 2017 memoir The Impossible, which was written by Joyce Smith and tells the story of what took place after her son fell through the ice of a Missouri lake in 2015.
Breakthrough stars Chrissy Metz (This Is Us), Mike Colter (Luke Cage) and Topher Grace (BlacKkKlansman).
Metz talked to People magazine about the magnitude of playing a real-life character. “To play a real person is very different than creating your own character,” she said. “There’s all this pressure, like I want to tell the story appropriately and I want to do it justice.”
The This Is Us star continued, “It’s really intimidating because you do want them to feel good about [your performance]. Obviously, nothing is going to be perfect, but you want them to feel like you captured their essence, that was my objective,” she explains. “It was definitely challenging, it’s very emotional and there’s a lot going on. I heard [Smith] is very happy, phew, thank goodness. But it was very, very challenging, mentally.”
Breakthrough hits theaters in April 2019. Watch the trailer below.
