Diet, exercise, and liposuction may not be the only things that can help drop weight. On Wednesday, the Food and Drug Administration approved a pill called Belviq that claims to induce weight loss. The catch? Those who use it have to be on a reduced-calorie diet and exercise regularly.

The idea is that the drug will help overweight and obese adults who have one or more medical conditions due to their weight, such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, or high cholesterol, shed the pounds easier. "The results overall are quite modest," said Dr. Melina Jampolis, a physician nutrition specialist and CNN's diet and fitness expert. "But most experts agree that even a 5 percent weight loss has significant implications in terms of reducing the risk of obesity associated diseases including heart disease and diabetes." Belviq works by activating a receptor in the brain that helps a person to eat less and still feel full.
