Actor Wendell Pierce, best known for his role as homicide detective William “Bunk” Moreland on the hit HBO series The Wire was arrested over the weekend in Atlanta, charged with battery, CNN.com reports.

TMZ.com reports that Pierce, who is a strong supporter of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign, got into a discussion with an unidentified man and woman in the hotel’s lobby early Sunday morning. The conversation became heated when the woman said she was a Bernie Sanders supporter, which led to Pierce allegedly assault them.  However, The Daily Beast reported the woman walked into a confrontation that was already taking place.

Atlanta Police Department spokesperson Donald Hannah told CNN Pierce was taken into custody at the Loews Atlanta Hotel where he was staying as a guest. He was booked and released on $1,000 bond, according to Fulton County Sheriff’s Office records.

The actor’s representatives have not yet released a statement.

Pierce has been critical of the Sanders campaign in the past, calling the Vermont Senator’s plans “empty” on Twitter, and also criticizing other Sanders supporters.
