A White contractor in Ohio, who was upset over a traffic incident, has apologized after a video of him using racial slurs toward a Black man went viral, ABC 6 reports.

Jeffrey Whitman was seen on video repeatedly calling a Charles Lovett a “n*gger” outside Lovett’s Columbus home on Tuesday.

“I just want to let you know what a n*gger you are,” Whitman can be heard saying in the video taken by Lovett.

Lovett told ABC 6 the two got into the verbal altercation on Tuesday morning when Whitman became upset after he thought Lovett has him cut him off on the road. He said Whitman tried to sideswipe him and eventually followed him to his home.

“So, I’m a n*gger because you can’t read street signs right?” Lovett asks in the video.

The two can be seen going back and forth; Whitman proceeds to tell Lovett that he’s entitled and rude.

“I’m glad I got all this information, that I’ll be sending to the state, since you’re a state contractor,” Lovett says.

ABC 6 reached out to Uriah’s Heating Cooling Refrigeration where Whitman works and received a statement from Whitman in which he apologized for his actions:

To Charles Lovett and the community,

I apologize for my use of the n word towards Charles Lovett on Tuesday, July 24th. I understand that using the n-word was not only hurtful towards Lovett as an individual, but hurtful towards the Black community at large. Using the word was dehumanizing, unacceptable, and inexcusable. My actions reflect an unhealthy mindset I have developed and I need to work to change. I have served the Black community for the last 9 years, installing furnaces and water heaters with pride. My actions that day are not a reflection of my feelings towards the Black community. I also understand that racial tensions in America are higher than before, and I regret my part in contributing to that tension. I realize that words are hollow without action, and because of the hurt I have caused, I hope I have the opportunity to give back to the Black community that I have harmed in a meaningful way.

Lovett filed a police report against Whitman; charges have not been filed, per ABC 6.
