Will Smith, 50, shared a beautiful message Thursday night explaining what love means.
“Somebody asked the other day How did I define Love?” Smith wrote under the nearly one-minute-long video.
The entertainer acknowledged that the feeling of love is a hard one to put into words, but he developed a framework.
“I didn’t have a good answer. I thought about it a little… Here’s my first attempt,” he added.
In the touching video, Smith described the love as “help” and “devotion” to his nearly 26 million followers.
“Love is when you’re committed to helping somebody with their life,” he said. “Helping them to suffer less, helping them to manage their minds and their emotions.”
“I think love is a deep desire for our loved one’s growth and their blossoming and their all-around well-being.” – Will Smith
He continued, “When you love somebody you want them to feel good. You want them to be happy and you want to see them succeed.”
The short video is a montage of clips consisting of heartfelt moments, including fathers and mothers with their children, loving partners and Martin Luther King Jr.
Smith sat down earlier this year with his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, her mother Adrienne, and their daughter, Willow, to discuss martial struggles and what love has taught him.
In addition, he appeared on the Rap Radar Podcast in which he shared an anecdote Jada told him about love. “She said, ‘People think love is red. It’s not. It’s blue like water, it’s not like fire. That’s such a deep concept,’” Will told hosts Elliot Wilson and B. Dot.
On Monday’s episode of Red Table Talk, Jada’s brother, Caleeb, said Will tells that story about his wife whenever he wants to appear “smart” to the people in the room.
