Willow Smith, in all her conscious and brilliant glory, returns with a new track to get your senses tingling and your mind ticking. “Romance” finds the teen singer musing on morality, ancient biology, and love on the latest track off of her upcoming album The 1st.
Lead by an acoustic guitar, the youngest of the Smith siblings delivers passionate vocals about the confusion of life and love. “Morality doesn’t exist,” she sings. “It’s a construct we brand feed into children who see / We create our paradox, we create all our lives.” Later she goes on to share her thoughts on social constructs and freedom. “I’m imagining a different history,” she sings. “Where man and woman stay equal / In the eyes of society / Where we don’t condemn different people / For exercising their freedom.”
The 1st will drop on Halloween (which is also her 17th birthday) and follow’s her Mellifluous EP, which dropped last December. Soon after she will be hitting the road with Jhené Aiko on “Trip (The Tour),” kicking off November 14 in Detroit.
