Black literature has not had much time on the silver screen. Yet, that hasn't stopped filmmaker and industry veteran Kasi Lemmons from setting her sights on author Zadie Smith's novel On Beauty. The storyline centers on two families whose lives greatly differ, yet eventually become bound together through race and sexual politics.

Lemmons is set to adapt the Booker Prize-nominated novel for film, developing the project through Carol Polakoff Productions, Rby Films, and Film 4. In addition to helming the popular 1997 film "Eve's Bayou," Lemmons has also directed "Talk to Me" starring Don Cheadle and Chiwetel Ejoifor, as well as "The Caveman's Valentine" with Samuel Jackson. Lemmons also has another black literary project in development at Fox Searchlight, an adaptation of "Black Nativity," Langston Hughes' gospel song play.

Which actors and actresses would be best for the On Beauty characters? What other black literary pieces would serve well on the screen?
