Comedian Chris Rock came under fire for a joke he made about Whitney Houston over the weekend. Houston, 48, died in February 2012 from an accidental drowning, with heart disease and cocaine use contributing factors, CBS reports.
In a now-deleted Instagram post, Rock uploaded a meme that read, "Me sitting in a meeting that could've been an email," along a picture of the late singer. He captioned the post, "Hurry up I got crack to smoke."
Houston's ex-husband, Bobby Brown, took to Instagram in response to the comedian's drug joke. "During this time of women empowerment you chose to use your time to try and humiliate our Queen," he wrote. "I thought you was a friend of the family," he added.
The veteran singer isn't the only person with complaints in response to the post. Many users on social media called Rock out for his offensive post.
The comedian has come under fire for several other offenses in recent months. In March, he ignored joke restrictions and mocked Jussie Smollett before presenting an award at the 50th NAACP Image Awards.
In December, he was criticized for allowing White comedians Louis C.K. and Rickey Gervais to use the N-word in a 2011 clip from the HBO unscripted comedy special Talking Funny. The clip resurfaced on Twitter after one user shared his shock over the loose use of the racial slur.
