Comedian and The Daily Show host Trevor Noah read Donald Trump for filth following the president telling law enforcement it was ok to rough up suspects.

During a rally on Friday attended by Long Island police officers, Trump insisted cops not be “too nice” when making arrests.

When you see these thugs thrown into the back of a paddy wagon, you see them thrown in, rough,” Trump said. “‘Please don’t be too nice.’ I said, ‘You can take the hand away.’”

Although the statement was greeted with applause and laughter by the majority of the audience, many of us weren’t at all humored, including Trevor. Not only did he place police brutality at number 99 on Trump’s probable list of priorities, he also addressed the claim that Trump was joking.

When White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders was asked about Trump’s comment Sanders said Trump was joking.

“If you don’t like what Trump says, it’s a joke,” Noah said. “If you do like it, then it’s policy. That’s how it works!”

The most treacherous aspect of Trump’s alleged joke is that his mere rise to political power has already emboldened officers to not be “too nice” to suspects.

But while officers have certainly been getting ballsier, many of them never needed presidential instruction to carry out undue injury to those they’ve arrested.
