While being honored at the Variety Power of Women luncheon this weekend, Viola Davis spoke about her work as part of the Hunger Is campaign, which works to eradicate hunger among impoverished children.

"I didn't expect to come here and cry; I expected to come here and drink lots of champagne," Davis said at the start of her short speech, before discussing the one in five children in the United States who grow up in food-poor households. It's an issue that's close to her, because she used to be one of them:

"I have stolen for food. I have jumped in huge garbage bins with maggots for food" Davis admitted.
