Deadpool 2 was able to do what other new releases weren’t able to do the last three weeks, dethrone Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity Wars as the number one movie at the North American box office.

The movie, which stars Ryan Reynolds and Zazie Beetz, opened with an estimated $125 million this past weekend.

Beetz, who plays the mercenary Domino, was able to hold her own alongside Reynolds’ Deadpool and give audiences a strong, Black female character that she says is reminiscent of Pam Grier’s Foxy Brown from the 1970’s Blaxploitation era of film.

“Domino [is] strong and she doesn’t really take Deadpool’s sh*t,” she told EBONY’s Shawn Edwards. [It’s] fun to play with, fun to not be manipulated by [Reynolds’] character, she can hold her own.”

Fans may see more of Beetz’s character in future films in the Deadpool franchise. There have been discussions of an X-Force film that would feature Domino and Deadpool, but the Atlanta star has been left in the dark.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen in the next movie, I haven’t read a script,” Beetz said at the New York Premiere of Deadpool 2. “I heard a little maybe this, maybe that…about a year ago. I think it has a lot to do with what audiences end up liking.”
