Singer and lifestyle entrepreneur John Legend (née John Roger Stephens) has always been seen as a man with a knack for style. The "Ordinary People" musician recently teamed up with online marketplace Etsy for a limited-edition home and living collection that is largely inspired by his own home style and taste. And to top things off, he leaned on an arsenal of designers including some uber talented Black-women to help build and curate the new line.
As a champion for marginalized voices, Legend prioritized working with female, Black and underrepresented sellers on Etsy in this partnership, including two members of the historic Gullah basket weavers community of South Carolina, who are part of the Etsy Uplift Makers Program.
“It’s important for me to fill my home with high quality pieces made by people who approach their craft with intention,” shares Legend. “Each item in this collection was made with joy in partnership with makers who inspire me, and I hope these special pieces make you feel right at home.”
The collection features a range of pieces and items that are sure to give any home or space a more elevated look. It was designed to infuse warmth, character and a relaxed refinement into any space, featuring items such as earth-toned ceramics and planters, intricately-woven baskets and vases, textured throw pillows, elevated pet accessories and a sleek oak wood record storage unit. The 11 shops featured in this Creator Collab represent five countries, including sellers from the US, Canada, the UK, Bulgaria and Poland.
“I love Etsy because it gives a platform to so many creative and diverse makers, who pour their heart and soul into their work," the singer explains. "Getting to collaborate with these talented artists was such a special experience, because the finished products tell a story about the people who made them.”
Legend will drop a second Etsy Creator Collab launch later this year.It will be a holiday collection full of seasonal decor and gifts.
