Arrest Made in Tragic Killing of 4-Year-Old Assata, Slain While Getting Her Hair Done

Georgia officials say they have made an arrest in the shooting death of a 4-year-old girl.

According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Assata Snipes was inside of her home when five bullets came flying into the apartment. At the time, the child was getting her hair done following a fresh wash.

Her father raced outside, but was unable to catch the shooter, and didn’t realize that one of the bullets struck little Assata in the head.

This was in 2014.

For more than three years, Georgia Bureau of Investigation officials attempted the solve the case.

The investigation follows one executed by Americus police, along with the GBI.

24-year-old Davontae Terrell Watts was charged with one count of murder and four counts of aggravated assault, Americus police announced Thursday.

The charges are reportedly related to the child’s parents, along with Assata’s 5-year-old sister, who were all inside when the shots were fired into the home, according to a news release issued by the Americus Police Department.

Authorities arrested Watts on an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in court for charges of armed robbery and aggravated assault related to a September 2016 robbery of a pawn shop.

“We were glad we were finally able to bring the … family some closure,” Americus Police Chief Mark Scott told The Telegaph by telephone Thursday.
