Michael Jai White Lost His Son to COVID

In a vulnerable interview with VladTV, actor Michael Jai White revealed that his oldest son died due to complications of COVID-19. White explained that prior to his son's COVID infection, his son struggled with substance abuse, which caused his immune system to be compromised. "He was in the hospital for a while so it wasn't immediate," said White. "Ultimately, when he got sick and went to the hospital, COVID was waiting for him. That was the knockout blow."

Biden Calls On New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo to Step Down

President Joe Biden called for the resignation of New York Governor Andrew Cuomo following the release of an official report by State Attorney Letitia James, which says that Cuomo sexually harassed 11 women, NBC News reports. “He should resign,” Biden told reporters Tuesday. New York State House Speaker Carl Heastie later stated that the chamber's judiciary committee would "move expeditiously" to complete an impeachment investigation into the governor, according to Yahoo News.

Study Links Long-Term Use of Lye Relaxers to Breast Cancer

Boston University's Black Women's Health Study, which followed 59,000 African-American women over 25 years, uncovered a potential link between breast cancer and long-term, frequent use of lye relaxers, according to PBS. Specifically, the study found that "Black women who used hair products containing lye at least seven times a year for 15 or more years had an approximately 30 percent increased risk of estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer compared with more infrequent users," Kimberly Bertrand, assistant professor of medicine at Boston University and an author of the study explained.

November Declared Hip-Hop History Month

This week, the United States Senate unanimously passed Resolution 331, a bill that officially declares the month of November "Hip-Hop History Month" and August 11 "Hip-Hop Celebration Day," The Hill reports. The bill was sponsored by  Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer and co-sponsored by Senators Bill Cassidy and Alex Padilla.
