Whether it’s Stevie J dangling the threat of sending his sometimes girlfriend Joseline Hernandez “back to the strip club,” a “basketball wife” calling her cast mate “b*tch, b*tch and mo’ b*tch,” or yet another athlete in the news for attacking his lover, negativity toward women, emotional abuse and domestic violence have become prime-time entertainment.
As a response, the Pan-Hellenic Council of Greater NY, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Epsilon & Omicron chapters, and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Rho chapter are hosting “Love in the Age of Hip Hop: Is Black Media Creating A Culture Of Relationship Violence?”, a solutions-focused panel of distinguished media insiders and domestic violence experts who will explore the consequences of negative media messages on the community at Barnard College in New York City on Tuesday, October 30th at 6:30 p.m.
TruthInReality.org founder and EBONY.com relationship expert Sil Lai Abrams will moderate this esteemed panel that includes: Kierna Mayo, Editorial Director, EBONY.com; Ejeris Dixon, Deputy Director of the New York City Anti-Violence Project; Jamal Joseph, civil rights activist and Associate Professor of Film Studies at Columbia University; Karen Hunter, publisher, MSNBC contributor & Pulitzer Prize winning journalist; Alfred Edmonds Jr., Senior VP and Editor-at-Large, Black Enterprise; and Dr. Scyatta Wallace, teen expert & Associate Professor of Psychology at St. John’s University.
