Karen’s Body Beautiful is a charming Brooklyn-based shop and spa dedicated to handmade hair and body product. Founded by Karen Tappin in 2004, the product line offers all-natural products made in a sleek kitchen inside the Myrtle Avenue space. Infusing jojoba oil, shea butter, aloe butter, apricot kernel and olive oils, Karen’s Body Beautiful is a favorite among Brooklynistas looking for something not only local, but tried, tested, and proven to work! My first experienced with Karen’s Body Beautiful was in my first year in New York City. As I took in everything Brooklyn, Myrtle Avenue was a place I couldn’t miss. Referred—well, urged by a friend to try Karen’s handmade beauty bars, I became instantly hooked on filling my shower with everything KBB. I’m admittingly obsessed with her Fig Tea Sugar Body Scrub—there were very few New York summer showers without it.
Recently Karen introduced ‘Naturally Chic’ hair, a product-line including shampoos, conditioners, serum, and oil. Among the product from the line tried, tested and approved among natural hair bloggers is the Luscious Locks Hair Mask. In a bright fuchsia jar, the mask—all natural of course—is powered to penetrate, detangle, soften, and strengthen our strands. Natural hair video bloggers like DenimPixie have given honest reviews of earlier versions of the product, recommending an over-night use for best results.
