Broward County prosecutors have dropped all of the charges against 15-year-old Delucca Rolle after meeting with his family on Tuesday, The Miami Herald reports.
According to the newspaper, the state's attorney's office released a statement, offering insight into the dismissal. "The Broward State Attorney's Office has made the decision that we will not file any charges against the 15-year-old juvenile who was arrested on Thursday in Tamarac."
The decision came after the high school student's family hired civil rights attorney Benjamin Crump.
Known for representing the family of Trayvon Martin, Crump took to Instagram to reveal that while prosecutors have made public statements about the dismissal, it has not "been communicated in writing, yet."
Last week, video footage of Rolle being pepper-sprayed by Deputy Christopher Krickovich, who slammed his head onto the ground and punched him repeatedly in the head, went viral on social media.
After he was arrested, Rolle was charged with assaulting an officer and obstruction without violence, the Herald reports.
News of the incident went viral and caught the attention of celebrities, including LeBron James, Steve Kerr and Natasha Rothwell, who took to social media expressing their opinions on the violent take down.
Sheriff Gregory Tony, the first Black sheriff in Broward County, announced Tuesday that he changed the status of deputy Krickovich and his partner Sgt. Greg LaCaerra, who participated in the arrest, from restricted administrative assignment to suspended.
